'Many youngsters believe that they can be playback singers' Do you think the popularity of singing has grown with so many talent shows being held? The craze for learning music has grown a lot especially with all the media hype and attention being given to winners.
Along with that the inclusion of people's vote and other such choosing criteria have led many to believe that they too can make it as a professional playback singer.
In the last one year I have noticed an almost 30 per cent rise in the number of youngsters enrolling to learn music. What kind music do youngsters want to learn? Around 80 per cent of the youngsters come to learn basic classical singing and then start singing film music. The craze for learning film music is more among youngsters.
Do Amdavadi youngsters have the drive to make it to the top of the Bollywood music industry? Amdavadi youngsters do have the drive and the skills to be successful but they have one major draw back. After the initial success they stop doing riyaz and become over confident. May be there aren't many talent shows happening on a big scale here to keep the competition going. Do you think it is essential to have natural talent to succeed? Some kind of an inborn talent is very essential if a person wants to really shine out. Also with most talent shows having an age bar, it is essential that anyone who want to shine out, should start off as soon as possible. Do you think with so many talent shows happening, it would lead to youngsters feeling frustrated at the increasing competition? Thankfully that isn't happening right now. As most of the youngsters who don't make it, become local heroes. They start performing for local shows and still have a chance to make a name for themselves. shivli.tyagi@timesgroup.com
